The Topic Nobody Registers For (But Everyone Needs!)

Dear Reader,

Alane's Weekly Check-In: Register here for a 10 minute check in with me on Thursdays at 9am PDT, Noon EDT, (new day, new name).

October Office Hours 10-11am Pacific
Tuesday, October 20th (Unsexy Topic)
Thursday, October 29th (Ancestors: Gifts and Grief)

Our next office hours is on October 20th. And I'm going to kick it off with a decidedly UNSEXY topic. In fact, anytime I offer a workshop or book club about this topic, no one registers.

YET, this unsexy topic comes up at least weekly with my clients:
The topic? ETHICS

  • How do I speak my truth without damaging a relationship?
  • My partner and I do not agree on the way we keep house, spend money, share parenting, so I just...
  • My child has anxiety, so I do his homework for him or call the school tell a not quite truth as an excuse.
  • My middle schooler is sneaking screen time.
  • My 9 year old stole money from my purse.
  • My 7 year old feels like her friends are lying to her.

The topic? ETHICS

How did you become an ethical person? Do you ever lie to protect yourself or others? As sensitive thinkers, we have definitely thought about our ethics. It is a VERY important topic in my life, but I was raised by southern parents and in a religion that actively taught and demanded ethical and moral development. Not everyone gets help learning the tools of ethics...especially in this day and age.

When have you found it challenging to be ethical in life? I suspect, for most of us, a place of challenge is when society defines ethical behavior with too narrow parameters, and we can see a larger purpose. Maybe we feel challenged when we are being so conscientious in caring for others.

Do you know the 5 tests for determining ethical choices? Do you know how to teach youth to recognize childish manipulators? Are you prepared to explain personal integrity? Do your kids/grandkids know who Honest Abe was? If you are a parent, you will definitely want to check out my masterclass: Good Kids, Tough Choices based on the fabulous book by the same name.

October Special: Purchase one office hours and receive both of these masterclasses as a special gift.

SEE YOU IN AN HOUR? Click here to sign in to the Thursday Drop-In today at Noon Eastern time. Dear Reader, Drugs are on my mind today. This week, my son is in his first pharmacology class at medical school. When he was telling me about studying how medicines work in the body, how they are metabolized, and how long they are effective, it hit close to home. As I have been navigating my COVID symptoms, using both traditional over-the-counter medicines as well as various herbs, homeopathy, and...

Dear Reader, Welcome to the Equinox Yes, it is officially the first day of Autumn and the mark of equal dark and equal light. Equivalent. Equ is a wonderful Latin root. I’m drawn to Equality, Balance, and Equanimity. I invite you to revel in the balance, noticing it in all the corners of your life. And celebrate. How will you celebrate the beginning of this transition? And how will you prepare for all the transitions the Autumn Equinox presages? Transitions are wonderful, but they require...
