Dear Reader, I hope you will join us on Saturday, June 13, 9am PDT, Noon EDT, to celebrate, grieve, honor, explore, and understand fatherhood, including the fathers we had, those we know, and for dads to honor themselves and the gifts they bring to our world. Dads do make the difference in a child’s life. Do you remember your father? Was he set on toughening you up? Maybe he was a little harsh, but he wanted you to be safe in the world. Some dads weren’t around much, leaving most of the parenting to moms. And some people grew up without a dad at all. How did that affect you as a child? What is a Redwood Tree Dad? He stands tall and strong. His roots are widespread, connecting with all the other trees (mentoring adults) in the child’s life, offering them nourishment and support so they flourish and have all the resources they need to support the child. He sees the broad scope of the child’s life since he is so much taller than the rest of the forest. Dear Reader, Squat Challenge for Sensitives: An annual program for sensitive nervous systems. How did it start? I got on a squatting kick a few years ago in August. Dear Reader, Why Pulling Away from What Is Hard Always Makes It Worse | Pema Chödrön Did you have a chance to check out this short interview with Pema Chödrön? When my life was falling apart (again) in 2004, my therapist referred me to Pema's book, When Things Fall Apart. It was truly eye-opening to me... and counterintuitive. It's a lesson I get to learn over and over again: Pulling away from what is hard makes it worse. I was raised with "When the going gets tough, the tough get going...
